SMP Develops Hybrid Component

SMP is currently developing the next generation Hybrid Battery Cooling Motor for use on heavy-duty hybrid vehicles. This motor will be manufactured in SMP’s Unimotor facility in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.

In 2008, SMP engineered a key component for use on the next generation of low emission hybrid delivery trucks. Manufactured in the Unimotor plant, the original hybrid Battery Cooling Blower was designed to keep the hybrid batteries on high-idle “green” commercial vehicles cool and running efficiently. The primary application was for commercial cube-van fleets.

The next generation dual blower assembly in development now will be a more robust version so that it can serve expanded applications and larger vehicles such as commercial bus fleets. Pre-production sampling has been in process since July 2008, and production is expected to begin in the latter half of 2009.
