SMP Wire & Cable Division has engineered a new style wire terminal that has solved a stubborn OE problem. The OEM customer had developed a serious problem with specific high volume ignition wire leads that were part of their assembly process. The customer was outside of their in-house safety requirements and additionally the lead was failing due to an arcing condition.
The Wire & Cable design team engineered a new terminal that allows a decrease in the insert force providing trouble-free installation and lowering repetitive motion concerns. This unique solution ensures safe, easy assembly while improving retention strength and eliminating potential arc damage.
SMP reports that pre-production of this new terminal design that has solved a major OEM’s terminal design problem is through pre-production testing and is scheduled for a completion date of May 1, 2009.
