SMP® Initiates Cross-Division Supply Chain Training

SMP® Initiates Cross-Division Supply Chain Training

Standard Motor Products has embarked on an initiative to train all employees working directly in supply chain management positions in the Basics of Supply Chain Management. This training crosses both the Temperature Control and Engine Management divisions.

SMP® teamed up with the Association for Operations Management (APICS) withplans to train 140 people across 13 of our facilities by the end of the first quarter of 2014. This effort includes SMP® facilities in the US, Mexico and Poland.

The Basics in Supply Chain Management training will help SMP® establish a common language and awareness of topics related to supply chain management across the corporation. Initial training commenced in August 2013 at our Virginia Distribution Center and will wrap up in the first quarter of 2014 in Long Island City, NY.

The Supply Chain Management team held a Packaging Summit at our Virginia Distribution Center in November 2013. Present were representatives from all Engine Management Division facilities who are responsible for packaging supply for their respective facilities. Summit participants addressed ways to improve the consistency and appropriateness of our packaging supply and agreed on a common format to determine and communicate packaging requirements.
