SMP Pioneers Injector For Alternative Fuels

SMP has developed a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) compatible fuel injector in our Greenville, SC fuel injection facility. This injector allows an engine to run on compressed natural gas thus decreasing our dependence on foreign oil and reducing green house emissions. Prototype development and testing was completed in the 4th quarter of 2008 and final design validation and product is expected early 2nd quarter 2009.

Vehicles running on CNG can reduce emissions by 20% and improve fuel economy by 10% compared with clean diesel. SMP is also planning to introduce a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) compatible injector which will help address the fuel storage issues associated with CNG fuel and to increase vehicle range.
